File Shelf and AirDrop from the Mac Notch
To AirDrop from the Mac notch, drag a file onto the notch to park it on the shelf, then send it with AirDrop or drag it into another app. The file stays on your Mac. OmniNotch does not upload shelf contents. Turn on auto-save if you want a drop to survive an interruption, and set how long those copies are kept. The license is one payment, not a subscription.
The problem
Desktop piles and Finder windows are slow when you only need to stage a file for AirDrop or drop it into Slack two minutes later.
How it works in the notch
- 01Drag onto the notch. Drag files onto the notch. They park on the shelf.
- 02AirDrop from the shelf. Send a parked file with AirDrop without opening the Share sheet in Finder each time.
- 03Set auto-save. Turn on auto-save and pick a retention window if drops should survive an interruption.
- 04Drag out again. Drag a shelf item into Slack, Mail, or Finder when you are ready. The original stays where you left it.
How to stage a file without a Desktop pile
The shelf is a drop zone, not a second Drive. Nothing is synced. If you quit without auto-save, unsaved drops can disappear — turn auto-save on when the file matters. Retention is the window you set, not an unlimited archive.
Use cases
Park a screenshot, then AirDrop it after the call. Hold an export while you find the right Slack thread. Keep a PDF off the Desktop during a screen share.
When another app is the better choice
